Work in Progress : 2024 - 2025
Installation View. Jaka Adamic, 2023
CONCEPT
-
Exploring four important desert landscapes interweaving the cultural birth stories of four matriarchs in my family.
-
Body of work expands on my personal inquiry into how Iranian identity is weaved into desert places between the Eurasian Mountain belt of the Alps to the arid belt of the old world in the Sahara, drawing on family narratives and hidden historic connections to land and place.
-
This ongoing inquiry explores deeper questions about how cultural identity is formed when displaced peoples are physically disconnected to cultural landscapes.
INSTALLATION
-
In my journey to reconnect to my cultural heritage, I have recorded conversation with my mother for the last 4 years.
-
This work intends to be a performance piece, using traditional Abri patterns projected onto sand boxes to depict sand-scapes.
-
Room likely dark, no lighting apart from projections
-
My mothers voice in audio recording softly echoing in the background, sharing fragments of the birth stories
-
My hands in view reshaping these cultural landscapes. Body not in view
-
This work aims to be an immersive experience for the audience to safely engage and learn about Iranian cultural stories.
